Japan is an amazing country where the experience of the past and the vision of the future, the traditional way of life and the advanced achievements of technological progress are intertwined. From the very beginning of the Meiji Revolution this country began to absorb the best achievements of Western culture, science and art. And in music, the seeds of national culture sprouted on the soil of the Western European musical tradition. The saxophone became the embodiment of musical synthesis: many original compositions and arrangements were made by Japanese composers for this instrument and various ensembles with its participation; saxophonists from Japan, world-famous, academic and jazz, have created a national school and are forming the image of saxophone performance right now.
In the programme “Land of the Rising Sun” the saxophone quartet “Saxas” will introduce listeners to the many facets of Japanese musical culture: the view of the Western world through the eyes of I.Kinoshita, M.Orima, E.Orita, the original musical language in the work of Y.Nagao, the music of D.Hisaishi to the world-famous and full of magic and boundless fantasy animation of H.Miyazaki.
